Our Success Story is of Subhash, a 16 year old child. Before joining the rehabilitation centre he would always sleep or keep laying down. He was always afraid of sitting as he would be fearful of what if he falls down. The saliva would continuously keep flowing out from his mouth. And whenever his Mother would ask him and try making him sit, he would start crying out louder. He’s Parents were highly depressed due to this. Because, despite of their tremendous efforts, they were never successful. He was also not capable enough of walking as he could never stand. One fine day VSDESWS team approached them. They carried out counseling and got Subhash admitted to their Rehabilitation centre. Team at VSDESWS and its founder took it as a challenge to enable him to sit, stand and eventually make him learn to walk.
In society, people or children barely mingled with him as he would continuously keep salivating. Children would hesitate to make friendship with him. This hurted him even more as he was although capable of speaking a bit, he didn’t had any friends to interact and spend time with. But, now he has many friends at the centre to play and interact with. Before joining the Centre, he didn’t know how to read and write Kannada. Now he is capable of reading and writing the language. The physiotherapy treatment they give is laudable as each child gets an hour or 90 minutes of physiotherapy treatment per day. Because of it today he is capable to sit. He not only sits on chair and etc, but also on ground with legs folded. This has been a great changeover in him. Also, his mother said “Most of us (Parents of differently abled) feel surprised to experience such an improvement in almost all of the Children who joined the centre a few months ago. Children who were incapable of sitting, standing and speaking now are able to sit, stand and speak respectively”.
Also, recently with the aid, advice and reference of the VSDESWS team, Subhash was made to undergo an operation. This operation was in an attempt to make him walk further. Before, for his treatment his Parents travelled to many places. Most of the times for his treatment and sometimes as a spiritual travel for his cure. They traversed through Puttaparthi, Tirupathi, Pune, Bangalore, etc while investing lakhs of rupees with zero results.
His mother says, “The rehabilitation centre is not just a centre to us, it is like a temple. They don’t treat the children with any sort of partiality. They don’t hesitate even if the children are salivating endlessly. Regular meetings are held for us. Today, I am confident enough that yes, my child will be able to walk. I have that 99% guarantee, trust and confidence in the efforts put by the entire team”.
