Story of Sanjana, Disability type – Downs syndrome
“I am Sanjana’s Parent. She is entitled with Downs syndrome. No matter how much ever she grows, her maturity levels would never go up. Although she is physically sound, her height doesn’t grow better and she has a round face. She didn’t knew to speak. She would utter only few words and those few words for repeated number of times. (At the minimum, 20 times the same word repetition would continue). If she would yell out amma, then she would keep repeating it for multiple times. People would get irritated due to that and it would seem more like an echo sounding which would stop later and never sooner. We enrolled her to the Rehabilitation centre under VSDESWS. Now her life has gradually changed.
There is a great transformation. She doesn’t repeat the words like before. At the maximum, only 2 or 3 times. There’s a changeover in her maturity levels too. She helps her friends at the centre. If she gets to know if any of her friends needs something, she aids them. She has learnt discipline and also does the house keeping work well. She recognizes her things. She tells if she is thirsty or hungry. We are hoping to witness further developments in her”.
